4 weeks of dedicated time writing daily, and I have learned some things

Hello, and welcome to today's edition of Founders International, where we give you the update on startups and technology from outside of the US.

Today, we'll be covering learnings from 4 weeks of dedicated writing, and what I have come to learn about newsletters, about writing, and what is to come for Founders International.

4 weeks of writing, have all come to this

I am going to keep this short and sweet. It has been 4 weeks of putting out issues every weekday covering international tech and startups, and in that time I have come to find that my intentions with this newsletter would best be changed.

I originally had intentions of starting a media business about foreign startups, and while I still think they are under-covered/up and coming in the world, I have come to find what I really enjoy is researching and writing more in depth on businesses. AND, I have actually come to enjoy the act of writing, something I really hated in school and thought I would hate doing now.

So, here is what you need to know with some of my realizations:

  • The newsletter will remain being written, but the topic and frequency are going to change

In order to make this newsletter writing last a long time, I am going to change topics. While I love international startups, and continue to work with them in my day job, what I found I enjoy more is actually learning about how businesses grow and operate, not just foreign startups specifically.

So, I plan to change the topic and do more in depth writings on companies I am really interested in and want to learn about. Maybe somedays that will be breaking down business for sale, businesses in the news, or other relevant businesses that are being covered in the news.

I have come to really be fascinated and love things like the Acquisitions Anonymous podcast that looks at businesses for sale, Acquired.fm, My First Million, and want to take a form similar to that looking at existing businesses and taking learnings out of them, so I can improve my own business building skills. And, hopefully it can help you out and provide a lot of value to you too.

This will also mean the frequency will need to change since more research will be being done. Right now I am thinking once per week, so that is what we are going to start with. Probably weekly on Wednesdays in the morning starting on March 1st.

The biggest thing I have come to find out after 4 weeks, is not only do you have to be invested in and curious in what you're writing your newsletter about, but you also have to just love it. Because when you have to open your laptop to start writing at 10 o'clock at night, the urge to give up on something you're not in love with is 100% there.

  • A rebranding is going to happen

This newsletter will no longer be called Founders International, it will be changing names (tbd), and the design of newsletter will change along with it. No more black and orange accents, I'm thinking blue baby.

  • The style of writing will remain

I think the reason I hated school writing was it had to be so formal, so organized and proper. The one thing I have gotten compliments on from these 4 weeks is the ability for an average reader and not even business focused person to read, enjoy, laugh, and understand what is being talked about. I want to keep that as we go ahead, because I also think injecting humor, side comments, and gifs, make things better and more engaging to read.

I just want to say, thank you to each subscriber that has joined along the way. I am making this change while this newsletter is still small and I can be flexible, but I just want to do it in a new way. My goal is still to provide a ton of value to you as a reader, just in a new light. I hope you're still interested in reading along.

It is not a goodbye, it's a see ya in the next new and improved issue ✌️

And that's all for today, if you want to get more follow me on Twitter @Cam_LaChance, where I share more thoughts similar to what I write about here, and interact with people more.

What did you think of the switch that's being made?
